DOUGLAS COUNTY MASTER GARDENERS

The Discovery Garden is already well developed. It is located at the Extension Farm outside of Roseburg, Oregon. There will be several special gardens as part of the Discovery Garden and as they are developed information will be added.

The Garden will be open to the public seven days a week. The Garden will be open for both guided educational and self-guided tours. A covered pavilion will allow seminars to be held year-round on various aspects of gardening, weed and insect control, and composting. It is also available for use by the public. Walking paths, benches and picnic areas will invited visitors to linger. The first phase of the garden was opened in late 1999.

The garden will be used for instruction and demonstration of various aspects of gardening, and landscaping. A compost demonstration area will be used to show and teach various recycling techniques.

Various gardens already developed are a Japanese garden, a roses and rhododendrons garden will greet visitors at the other entrance. Several small areas will demonstrate gardening techniques for people with physical limitations, gardens for children, raised bed gardening featuring daylilies, dahlias, and lilies.

A large xeriscape and butterfly gardens are fully developed. Dwarf and semi-dwarf fruit trees are displayed..

An area developed to demonstrate methods to assist handicap gardening.

Funding for the garden will come from the Master Gardener Chapter and community sponsors.
